STEAM BASED LEARNING

STEAM Based Learning is integrated throughout all of the curriculum at Cherokee Trail Elementary. Using the best components of International Baccalaureate, Expeditionary Learning, STEM, Project Based Learning, and Artful Learning, our incredible staff put together the plans to create our framework. In addition to these components, our staff also integrated the Colorado Academic Standards so our students would be exposed to the right mix of foundational and inquiry based learning. STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Cherokee Trail staff looked very hard at moving to a STEM model but if you see our school you’ll see the influence of the arts in our building and you’ll understand why we choose STEAM.

STEAM Day

Twice a year, we showcase all of the learning in our building with a STEAM day. With our STEAM day we invite our parents, business partners, and community into our school to learn from our students about their design thinking challenges. It is a wonderful chance for our students to share their learning. Our STEAM days are in December and May each year.
